Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence Scouting Report

  • Watched: Notre Dame (2020), Wake Forest (2020), Ohio State (2019), LSU (2019)
  • Pros:
    • Great arm strength and not afraid to zip balls into tight windows.
    • Very quick to diagnose coverage and determine which progressions to focus on on any given play.
    • Good at buying time in the pocket.
    • Slippery runner in the open field and is legitimately fast.
    • Good timing on his throws.
    • Short passes almost always placed well enough to allow for YAC.
    • Does a nice job of holding or moving the safety to open passing windows.
    • Showed improved accuracy in 2020 and increased responsibilities at the LOS.
  • Cons:
    • Occasionally misdiagnoses the coverage pre-snap and pre-determines the throw as a result.
    • Makes some dangerous passes to avoid sacks.
    • Wouldn’t consider him a pinpoint passer and has a tendency to miss high or behind when he does.
    • Somewhat slow release, but we aren’t talking Byron Leftwich slow here.
  • General:
    • Didn’t see him take a single snap under center.
    • A ton of PA and screens.
  • Overall Take:
    • Pro-readiness: 1st (out of 8)
    • Potential: 1st
    • Overall: 1st
    • Number Grade (out of 100): 96
    • Trevor Lawrence has earned the highest grade I’ve ever personally given out. Is he the most accurate passer I’ve ever seen? No. But he’s accurate enough and he has literally everything else in spades. His combination of arm strength, processing speed, anticipatory throws, and mobility should allow his offense to utilize every inch of the football field. Even better, he’s shown all of these things across three years of elite play in college, and most recently, proved he can still play at an elite level even when his supporting cast isn’t as great as he had grown accustomed to. He’s as sure a thing as there is. If he doesn’t turn into a great QB in the NFL, his team has messed something up.
