Josh Rosen

Scouting Report

  • He can make subtle side-steps to elude pressure, but for the most part, he’s a sitting duck.
  • Ball velocity is good, not great. The ball comes out of his hand effortlessly, but it doesn’t have the same pop that Allen and Mayfield have.
  • Has a tendency to put a bit too much air under his deep ball, but unlike some of the other QBs that fall victim to this, I’m confident that he has the arm strength to fix this.
  • Pretty good ball placement; a notch below Mayfield, Lauletta, and Woodside IMO but ahead of the others.
  • Shows the ability to make basically all of the throws; anticipatory throws, short, intermediate, deep, etc.
  • Very poor decision-making under pressure
  • Makes more full-field reads than most, but still has a lot of the one-read throws that we see a lot in college.
  • Rarely tries to beat coverage over the top, not sure if this is a coach/scheme thing or if Rosen is uncomfortable with it, but he had decent success when he did attempt to.
  • Concussions have recently become an issue, including one that held him out of action for roughly a month; had a serious shoulder injury as well
  • Overall take:
    • Pro-readiness (ranking out of 11): 3rd
    • Potential: 5th
    • Overall: 5th
    • Number Grade (out of 100): 84
    • His transition to an NFL-style offense should be smooth. He has good enough arm strength. He has good enough accuracy. Due to his recent injuries as well as his lackluster ability to evade pressure, I think he has to become an absolutely lethal passer to be an elite QB and I just don’t foresee that in him.
    • Most likely comp: less durable Eli Manning
    • Peak: Matt Ryan
